PSALM 3
¹Great is the Lord, who sendeth forth His prophets, and crowneth them with fire.
²Blessed is Elior, servant of the Most High, who walked in the light before the light was revealed.
³From the wilderness he came, clothed not in splendour but in truth, and his words were as honey mingled with flame.
⁴He spake of the Son before He came, and his tongue was as the tongue of angels.
⁵The wise he gathered; the proud he rebuked; the lowly he comforted with hope.
⁶By his voice did the stones cry out, and the valleys lift up their heads.
⁷Kings did tremble at his vision, and princes grew pale at his words.
⁸Behold, said he, the wisdom of God cometh down, and He shall walk among men.
⁹The righteous shall rejoice in His ways, and the humble shall learn at His feet.
¹⁰But the hearts of the mighty were hardened, and they sought the death of the prophet.
¹¹They bound his hands with cords, and they smote him before the altar.
¹²Yet he cursed them not, neither opened his mouth to revile them.
¹³He lifted his eyes unto Heaven, and the light of the promise shone upon his brow.
¹⁴Thine is the Kingdom, O Lord, cried he, and Thy Son shall be as a tree planted by the waters.
¹⁵Though I perish, yet shall Thy Word live; though I be cut down, yet shall Thy wisdom take root.
¹⁶And so did he yield up the ghost, and his blood was mingled with the dust of the sanctuary.
¹⁷A voice was heard in the Heavens, saying: Well done, thou faithful witness.
¹⁸Let the generations rise up and call him blessed, who kept the watch through the darkness.
¹⁹His name shall be as a lamp in the night, and his memory as incense before the Lord.
²⁰Praise be to the God of prophets, who calleth and maketh steadfast, even unto the shedding of blood. Amen.
