PSALM 23
¹Blessed is the land which the Lord hath prepared for His beloved, where no corruption entereth, neither dust nor decay.
²There the air is as sweet as the breath of the Almighty, and the wind beareth no sorrow upon its wings.
³The light of that place is not as the light of this world, but shineth from the countenance of the Lord and of His Son.
⁴The ground is not trodden with blood, nor are its stones stained with the tears of the oppressed.
⁵The fields need no tilling, nor the vineyards pruning; for all things grow in abundance by the word of His power.
⁶The beasts of the field and the fowl of the air do not flee in fear, for in that land there is no violence nor harm.
⁷The voice of rejoicing soundeth as the rush of many waters, and the singing of the redeemed is as a flame ever rising.
⁸The tongue of every nation is loosed in gladness, and the children of men are one in the house of their Father.
⁹The crown is cast down before the throne, and the sceptre is laid low, for the Lord alone is exalted in that day.
¹⁰No temple is found therein, for the Lord God is their temple, and the Son is their everlasting light.
¹¹They need no veil to cover their faces, for their eyes are made pure, and they behold the glory of His majesty.
¹²The wounds of the past are bound, and the hearts of the weary are made whole in the river of His mercy.
¹³Every promise He spake is fulfilled, and every longing of the just is met with abundance and joy.
¹⁴The holy ones walk in fellowship with their Lord, and call upon His name without fear or veil.
¹⁵The stars themselves are as ornaments above their heads, yet dim compared to the brightness of His smile.
¹⁶He who was slain reigneth there forever, and they who followed Him in faith sit at His table in peace.
¹⁷There is no night in that kingdom, neither sleep, for they are ever awakened in joy and not in weariness.
¹⁸O thou land of the living, thou rest of the righteous, how shall my soul not yearn to dwell within thee?
¹⁹Make me fit to walk thy golden streets, and let not my feet stray from the narrow path that leadeth unto thee.
²⁰For thou art the fulfilment of every promise, the end of every journey, and the crown of all the faithful.
