PSALM 13
¹Hearken, O Lord, unto the cry of Thy people; incline Thine ear and come down.
²For we are as orphans, bereft of Thy presence, and the light of Thy countenance is far.
³The watchmen look in vain for the dawn, and the singers hold their peace in sorrow.
⁴The cedars bow, the rivers cease, and the stars hide their light in mourning.
⁵Thou didst once dwell between the seraphim; Thy glory filled the sanctuary.
⁶But now the seraphim cover not Thy throne, and the incense no longer riseth sweetly.
⁷Why, O Lord, hast Thou withdrawn Thyself? Why is Thy dwelling place made desolate?
⁸Return unto us, for we are bruised; breathe again upon the dust, and make it live.
⁹Come in the whirlwind, or come in the stillness; only come, and we shall be healed.
¹⁰The children ask bread and there is none; they seek Thee, but find Thee not.
¹¹Our sins are ever before Thee, yet we cry unto Thee: remember Thy covenant, and return.
¹²Though we are not worthy, yet Thy mercy is greater than the heights of the firmament.
¹³Let not the nations say: Their God hath abandoned us; silence the mouth of the scorner.
¹⁴Let the hills break forth into singing, and the trees of the field clap their hands.
¹⁵Build again the desolate places, and inhabit the praises of Thy people.
¹⁶Open Thy gates, and let the King come in; yea, let the Holy One walk among us.
¹⁷Let the trumpet sound from the high tower, and the people gather in reverence.
¹⁸Let the fire be kindled on the altar, and the offering be made acceptable once more.
¹⁹Then shall our lips utter praise without ceasing, and our hands do righteousness.
²⁰Blessed art Thou, O Lord most high, who hearest the cry of Thy children and returnest in glory. Amen.
