PSALM 21
¹O Lord, my God, in Thee have I trusted; let not my soul be confounded, nor let me fall into the hands of the wicked, nor be delivered unto the torment of the frozen Hell.
²For Thou art the refuge of them that seek Thee, the stronghold of the righteous in the day of trouble; turn not away Thy face from me, but hear my cry.
³The cold darkness encompasseth the lost, and Amphisbaena, the dread ruler of the ice-bound realm, hath no pity on them that perish therein.
⁴Lead me, O Lord, in the paths of life everlasting, that my footsteps stumble not in the valleys of despair, nor be frozen in the prison of eternal night.
⁵Remember Thy mercy, O Lord, and withhold not Thy grace from me, lest I be cast down into that place where sorrow and frost endure forever.
⁶For the wicked say in their hearts: There is no salvation, and they walk the crooked ways that lead to the abyss.
⁷But I will put my trust in Thee, O Lord; be Thou my shield and my exceeding great reward, that I may not be delivered to the cold hand of death.
⁸Thou hast been my refuge in generations past, and Thy faithfulness hath never failed; be Thou now my help in this hour of peril.
⁹Guide me by Thy truth, and teach me to follow Thy statutes; that I may not be ensnared by the snares of darkness nor lost in the frozen wastes.
¹⁰For the pit of ice is deep and wide, and many souls have fallen therein; yet Thy salvation is higher than the Heavens, and Thy mercy is boundless.
¹¹O Lord, stretch forth Thy hand to save me, and deliver my soul from the torment of Amphisbaena’s realm, that I may sing of Thy goodness all my days.
¹²Let not the frozen winds of despair prevail against me, nor the chains of ice bind my feet, but lift me up upon the wings of Thy Spirit.
¹³For Thou art the God of light and life, and in Thy presence is fullness of joy; therefore will I trust in Thy mercy and rejoice in Thy salvation.
¹⁴Turn away mine enemies, and grant me peace in the shadow of Thy wings, that I may dwell in Thy house forevermore.
¹⁵Teach me to walk humbly before Thee, and to cleave to Thy commandments, that I may not be found wanting on the day of judgment.
¹⁶O Lord, my rock and my redeemer, be Thou my fortress against the cold and the dark, and keep me from the mouth of the pit.
¹⁷Let Thy countenance shine upon me, and deliver me from the terrors of the frozen Hell, where no light shineth and no hope remaineth.
¹⁸For in Thee is refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, and a strong tower for the righteous.
¹⁹Preserve my soul, O God, and guide me in the way everlasting; that I may walk before Thee in holiness and righteousness all my days.
²⁰Blessed be the Lord, the rock of my salvation, who hath delivered me from the cold pit and brought me into the land of the living.
