PSALM 14
¹Hear, O ye people, and incline thy hearts unto the commandments of the Lord, lest ye perish in forgetfulness.
²For the statutes of the Most High are not as the customs of men, to be set aside when convenient.
³From the beginning hath He spoken, and His voice hath not ceased from among the mountains.
⁴The thunder of His mouth goeth forth, and Ivalice trembleth; who then shall despise His precepts?
⁵The law is a lamp unto the feet of the just, and a stumbling-block to the proud of countenance.
⁶Blessed is the man who remembereth all the ordinances of the Lord, and meditateth on them by night.
⁷But woe unto them who walk in their own counsel, and cast behind them the words of His mouth.
⁸For they shall be as stubble before the north wind, and their foundation shall melt in the day of frost.
⁹The laws of the Lord are pure, converting the soul; they are not burdensome, but lifegiving.
¹⁰The rebellious cry aloud for liberty, and think themselves free, yet are captives to their own lust.
¹¹Forget not the seven commandments, which He gave unto our fathers with fire and cloud.
¹²Keep them as signets upon thy heart, and as frontlets before thine eyes, lest thou fall into ruin.
¹³For Amphisbaena watcheth in the deep, and the gates of his ice-palace yawn for the disobedient.
¹⁴His chains are cold, and his breath freezeth the soul; his realm is silence and gnashing without end.
¹⁵The fool saith: There is no need of law, and in his folly he kindleth the wrath of Heaven.
¹⁶Remember, therefore, the judgment that befell the high places, and the smoke that rose from the cities of pride.
¹⁷Let not thy tongue speak against the law, nor thy hand do what is unclean in the sight of the Lord.
¹⁸Teach thy children in the morning, and remind thine household in the watches of the night.
¹⁹For the Lord delighteth in those that walk straightly, and maketh their paths firm and sure.
²⁰But the forgetters He shall forget, and the covenant-breakers shall be cast from His presence. Amen.
