PSALM 22
¹O Lord of Hosts, how long wilt Thou tarry? Why hidest Thou Thy face from Thy children?
²Our souls languish in a dry land, and our bones are as dust in the wilderness.
³The tabernacle is silent, and the altar is bare; no voice of joy is heard in the courts.
⁴The lamp is dim, the veil is torn, and the ark is lonely in the shadow.
⁵Wilt Thou forget Thine inheritance for ever? Shall Thy mercy sleep unto the end?
⁶Return, O Lord, and make Thy dwelling again among the hills of Thy choosing.
⁷Come down in glory, as when fire went before Thee and the mountain trembled greatly.
⁸Make Thy name to be known among Thy people, and let Thy fear return unto their hearts.
⁹For without Thee we are as sheep without a shepherd, scattered upon every high hill.
¹⁰Our enemies mock, saying: Where is their God? Where is the strength of their salvation?
¹¹But Thou, O Lord, sittest in the Heavens, and none can stay Thy hand.
¹²Stretch forth Thy hand and touch Ivalice, and the fountains shall break forth in joy.
¹³Cause Thy breath to blow upon the garden, and the desolate place shall bloom again.
¹⁴Let the gates be lifted up, and the doors opened wide, that the King of Glory may enter in.
¹⁵Come with clouds, and lightnings, and voices; come with mercy and with flame.
¹⁶Dwell in the midst of Thy people, and be unto them a wall of fire round about.
¹⁷Walk once more in the cool of the day, and speak with Thy servants as of old.
¹⁸Let the sound of Thy footsteps gladden Ivalice, and the hills melt before Thee.
¹⁹Then shall we rejoice with timbrel and harp, and our mouths shall be filled with laughter.
²⁰Blessed be the Lord who returneth; His mercy endureth for ever. Amen.
