CHAPTER 4
¹And it came to pass in the days when the voice of the prophets was stilled, and the temples were given unto pride and disputation, that the Spirit of the Lord moved upon the Glabados, who is called Ajora, the Son of God.
²Now when He had lived in quietness among the humble and lowly, the time was fulfilled which the Lord had appointed unto Him.
³And Ajora went out from the house of His mother, whose name was Mariandel, and of His father, Ioseth the builder, and came unto the wilderness of Odarah, there to fast and to pray.
⁴Forty days and forty nights did He fast, and lo, the beasts of the field gathered not to trouble Him, nor did the scorpions strike, for the Spirit of the Lord was with Him.
⁵And in the silence did He commune with the voice of the Most High, and the mysteries of Heaven were laid open before Him.
⁶Then returned He unto the cities of men, unto the town of Ylom, which lieth beside the river Erdon. And He spake in the temple upon the seventh day.
⁷And all that heard Him were astonished, for He taught not as the scribes, nor as the teachers of the old ways, but as one having dominion and authority from on high.
⁸And a man stood in the congregation, whose right hand was withered, and he begged alms from the people. And Ajora looked upon him and said, “Stretch forth thy hand.”
⁹And the man stretched forth his hand, and it was restored whole like unto the other, and a murmur passed through them that stood near, saying, “What manner of man is this, that power goeth out from Him?”
¹⁰And many came unto Him, seeking to know of the Kingdom of God, and of the works that the Lord requireth of man.
¹¹And He answered them, saying, “The Kingdom of Heaven draweth nigh, and ye know not the hour wherein it shall appear. Repent, therefore, and turn ye from wickedness, for the Lord hath prepared a place of joy for the righteous, and of sorrow for the transgressor.”
¹²And great multitudes followed Him, men and women, old and young, the hale and the afflicted, the bond and the free. And He walked among them and taught them with kindness and without pride.
¹³Then chose He twelve from among the multitude, that they should walk with Him and learn of His ways, and bear witness of His doings.
¹⁴The first was Velius, whose name meaneth “fire unquenched,” and he was a man of fierce zeal and unshaken faith.
¹⁵The second was Duma, who was gentle in speech and quick to weep for the sufferings of the people.
¹⁶The third was Zalera, who had been a keeper of scrolls, learned in the tongues of the ancients.
¹⁷The fourth was Zebeb, a fisherman from the shores of Lake Tiberen, steadfast and loyal.
¹⁸The fifth was Hashmal, thy servant, who now writeth this testimony, unworthy as I am, yet compelled by the Spirit.
¹⁹The sixth was Ultima, called the Just, who judged no man, yet knew all men.
²⁰The seventh was Sel, who was once a herdsman, and sang praises unto the Lord even in chains.
²¹The eighth was Queklain, who had turned from sorcery, and burned his books, and served the Lord in fear and trembling.
²²The ninth was Rophochehe, who spake seldom, yet when he opened his lips, the truth poured forth like water from the rock.
²³The tenth was Adrammelech, who had been a captain of soldiers, yet laid down his sword to follow the Prince of Peace.
²⁴The eleventh was Cheraub, whose joy knew no bounds, and who danced before the Lord even in the dust.
²⁵And the twelfth was Leviathan, a man great in stature and slow to anger, whose strength was in service.
²⁶And unto these twelve did Ajora impart the secrets of the Lord’s purpose, and the mercy He had kept hidden from the proud.
²⁷And He spake unto them, saying, “Verily I say unto thee, ye are the stones upon which I shall build My House, and the light that shall not be hid beneath the bushel. Go ye not as princes, nor lift up thyselves above thy brethren, but serve, as I do serve.”
²⁸Then went He with His disciples from town to town, from Betalon to Hirim, from Murond to Galiar, proclaiming the Kingdom of God, healing the sick, comforting the brokenhearted, and rebuking the haughty.
²⁹And they that heard Him were torn in twain, for the humble rejoiced, and the proud gnashed their teeth.
³⁰The Pharists, who were the rulers of the old temples, said among themselves, “This man bringeth a new teaching, and the people do follow after Him. If we let Him be, all our place and power shall be as dust.”
³¹But the people pressed unto Him, and some would but touch the hem of His robe to be healed, and others sat at His feet for days without food, hungering more for His words than for bread.
³²And the name of Ajora spread throughout the kingdoms, and His fame reached even unto the ear of the king.
³³Yet the Glabados sought not for fame, nor did He boast in His power, but gave glory always unto the Lord Most High.
³⁴And He said, “The works I do, I do not of Myself, but of Him that sent Me. For I and the Father are one, and His love is poured out upon all flesh, if they will receive it.”
³⁵Thus began the ministry of Ajora, Son of the Living God, and many turned their faces unto the light, and were not ashamed.
³⁶But the hearts of some were hardened, and they took counsel in secret, to lay snares for Him.
³⁷Nevertheless, Ajora feared them not, for His hour was not yet come, and His work was to be fulfilled according to the will of the Father.
³⁸Blessed be the name of the Lord, who hath visited His people, and raised up a Redeemer unto the nations.
³⁹Verily, verily, the darkness is scattered, and the dawn hath broken upon Ivalice.
