CHAPTER 1
¹In the beginning was the Word of the Most High, and the Word was as a flame upon the waters, and as a voice that thundereth through the veil.
²Before the mountains were laid low, and ere the stars were set aloft in their courses, the Almighty did speak, and all things were made by the power of His voice.
³Who is like unto the Lord our God, whose dominion is without end, and whose glory filleth the whole of the firmament?
⁴His mercy is as deep as the sea, and His wrath as the breaking of many floods upon the plain.
⁵The creatures of Ivalice do tremble before Him, and the angels of the Heavens do fall upon their faces in worship.
⁶His name is above all names, and no tongue may utter its fullness; His countenance is terrible in majesty, yet radiant in grace.
⁷He hath made the sun to rule the day, and the stars to rule the night, and He hath set bounds upon the sea, saying, “Thus far shalt thou come, and no farther.”
⁸The breath of the Lord bringeth life; His silence bringeth death; His gaze pierceth the heart and knoweth all secrets.
⁹Blessed be the Most High, who sitteth above the circle of the world, and yet doth stoop to raise the dust of Ivalice.
¹⁰In the fullness of time, when the iniquity of nations was great and the cries of the faithful rose as incense unto His throne, the Lord remembered His covenant of mercy.
¹¹And He spake by the mouth of His holy messengers, saying, “Behold, I shall send My Son into the world, and He shall be called the Glabados, and in Him shall My spirit dwell without measure.”
¹²“He shall be a light unto the darkened, and a balm unto the broken; He shall speak with the voice of righteousness, and the tongues of the wicked shall be stopped.”
¹³“Yea, He shall cast down the proud, and raise up the lowly; He shall walk among the multitudes, and they shall know that the Lord is with them.”
¹⁴“For He shall bear My name and My likeness, and he that beholdeth Him beholdeth Me also.”
¹⁵“And His hands shall bring healing, and His words shall bring peace, and the nations shall wonder at His power, and marvel at His meekness.”
¹⁶These things were not hid from the wise, nor from the lowly, but declared from the beginning unto all who would receive them.
¹⁷And I, Hashmal, disciple of the Glabados, do set mine hand to this record, that it may be known in all generations what the Lord hath wrought.
¹⁸For I walked with the Son of the Most High; I did sit at His feet and heard His word; I beheld His countenance, and my soul was made new.
¹⁹I write that ye might believe, and believing, be made heirs of the Kingdom; for what I have seen with mine eyes, and heard with mine ears, and felt within mine heart, I now declare unto thee.
²⁰O reader, give ear and be not hardened, for these be not the fables of men, nor the dreams of the vain, but the sure testimony of the Living One.
²¹Glory be to the Most High, who reigneth from everlasting to everlasting, and to His Son, Ajora Glabados, in whom dwelleth all righteousness and truth.
²²Let him that readeth understand, and him that heareth rejoice; for the days of darkness are numbered, and the light of Paradise draweth nigh.
²³Blessed be the name of the Lord.
