CHAPTER 5
¹And it came to pass, after Ajora had proclaimed the commandments of the Lord upon the plain of Halcya, that He journeyed with His disciples into the region of Thramas, where the forests grow thick, and the hills roll like the bosom of the sea.
²And there came unto Him a multitude, for the fame of His teaching and power had gone out unto the coasts and villages of Ivalice. And they brought with them their sick, and their halt, and their blind, and those vexed with spirits.
³Now as Ajora walked by the way, there was a woman sitting by the roadside, her garments torn with age and her eyes darkened by the shadow of blindness. And she cried aloud, saying, “O Lord, Son of God, have mercy upon me!”
⁴And those that were near rebuked her, for she was unclean and of no repute. But Ajora turned Him about and called her unto Him, saying, “Daughter, fear not; thou hast called, and I have heard.”
⁵And when she was brought nigh unto Him, He said unto her, “What wouldst thou have Me do?” And she said, “That mine eyes be opened, for I have not seen the sun these many years.”
⁶Then Ajora touched her face with His hand, and made the sign of the star upon her brow, and He spake: “Be thou healed, for thy faith hath called down the mercy of Heaven.”
⁷And immediately her eyes were opened, and she beheld the face of Ajora, and wept for joy. And the people who stood round about marveled greatly, and glorified God, who had sent His Son with healing in His wings.
⁸Then came unto Him a woman whose son was sorely tormented, for a spirit had taken hold of the child, casting him down and foaming at the mouth. And the mother said unto Ajora, “Lord, if Thou canst do anything, I beseech Thee, deliver my son.”
⁹And Ajora looked upon her and said, “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” And the woman wept and said, “Lord, I believe; help Thou mine innocent son.”
¹⁰Then Ajora rebuked the spirit, and it came out from the child, who lay still as one dead. But Ajora took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he stood whole before them all.
¹¹And again there came a leper, clothed in rags, whose skin was like the scales of the dying. And he cried out, “Lord, if Thou wilt, Thou canst make me clean.”
¹²And Ajora, being moved with compassion, drew near unto him and touched him, though all men drew back in fear. And He said, “I will; be thou clean.” And immediately the leprosy departed from him, and his skin was as that of a newborn babe.
¹³Then spake Ajora unto him, saying, “Go thy way, and shew thyself unto the priests, and offer the gift appointed. But tell no man what hath been done.” Yet the man could not hold his peace, but published the deed abroad.
¹⁴So great a report was spread of the healing that men came forth from Murond and Bura, from the reaches of Goland and the slopes of Zirekile Falls. They brought the deaf, and the dumb, and the lame, and those possessed by dark whispers.
¹⁵And all were healed of whatsoever affliction they bore, for the power of the Lord was with Ajora without measure.
¹⁶And the disciples marveled, saying one unto another, “What manner of man is this, that disease fleeth at His touch, and even spirits obey Him?”
¹⁷But Ajora said unto them, “Marvel not, for the Father worketh in Me. Verily I say unto thee, greater things than these shall ye do, if ye remain in the Light and keep My commandments.”
¹⁸Now there was in Thramas a house, humble and made of clay, wherein dwelt a boy who had never walked. And his mother had carried him every day from the rising of the sun. When she heard of Ajora, she brought the child before Him.
¹⁹And Ajora looked upon the child, and the child looked upon Him. And the Lord smiled, and said, “My little one, thy time hath come. Rise up and walk.”
²⁰And the boy leapt up, and laughed, and ran to his mother, and she wept and fell upon her knees, blessing the name of the Lord.
²¹Then Ajora took her by the hand and lifted her up, and He said, “Blessed art thou among women, for thy faith hath found favor before the throne.”
²²And so great was the rejoicing in that town that the elders begged Ajora to tarry with them, and they offered Him bread and wine and rest.
²³But Ajora said unto them, “My rest is to do the will of Him that sent Me, and to finish His work. I go to other towns, for there are yet many who sit in darkness.”
²⁴And the disciples followed Him, bearing baskets and staves, and they were joyful and sang psalms along the road, for the power of God had been made manifest, and none doubted in their hearts.
²⁵Yet Ajora spake to them, saying, “Rejoice not only that ye see wonders, but that thy names are written in the scroll of life. For whoso endureth and walketh in truth shall be as the stars forever.”
²⁶Then said Hashmal, “Lord, shall there always be healing for them that believe?” And Ajora answered him, “Yea, for the body may perish, but the soul shall be made whole. In Paradise, every tear is dried, and none is lame or blind.”
²⁷And He said further, “The miracles I show thee are signs, that thou mayest believe. But greater is the healing of the soul than that of the flesh, for it endureth.”
²⁸Now there were some among the crowd who were Pharists in disguise, come to spy upon Ajora and accuse Him. And they said, “By what power dost Thou these things? And who gave Thee this authority?”
²⁹But Ajora answered them not, save to say, “If ye knew the Father, ye would know the Son. But ye are blind guides, and the truth is not in thee.”
³⁰And they were confounded, and departed in silence, for they could bring no charge against Him.
³¹And thus it was that Ajora healed the sick and made whole the afflicted, and the fame of Him was spread abroad like the sound of a trumpet through all Ivalice.
³²And they that heard came forth to meet Him, bringing with them their infirm, and many turned from their sins and sought the Light.
³³And Ajora went up from Thramas into the hills of Delgrave, and there He prayed through the night, giving thanks unto the Lord of Hosts.
³⁴And the morning light shone upon His face as He came down, and the disciples said one to another, “The glory of the Lord is with Him.”
