CHAPTER 10
¹And it came to pass on the third day from His arrest that the sun rose over Murond with a heavy sky, and the city was stirred as for a great sorrow.
²The multitude gathered by the wayside, and they cried out with voices loud and unyielding, “Hang Him! Let His blood be upon us and our children!”
³And the soldiers took the Lord Ajora from the prison where He was bound, and led Him forth through the streets, bearing the crossbeam upon His shoulders.
⁴And His face was marred with bruises, and the crown of thorns pressed deep upon His brow, drawing forth blood that mingled with His sweat.
⁵As He walked, the women of the city bewailed Him and cried out, “O holy Ajora, why sufferest Thou thus?”
⁶But the Lord turned to them and said, “Weep not for Me, but weep for thyselves and for thy children. For the days shall come when none shall find mercy.”
⁷And He went as a captive by ship until He came unto the place called Golgorand, which is interpreted, The Place of the Skull.
⁸There they bound Him, and with Him two others; one on His right hand and one on His left, and the inscription above His head read, “Ajora, King of Ivalice.”
⁹And the soldiers cast lots for His garments, dividing them amongst themselves, fulfilling the scripture that foretold these things.
¹⁰And as the sun climbed the Heavens, darkness fell upon the land, and Ivalice trembled as if the foundations of the world were shaken.
¹¹The veil of the great temple was torn in twain from top to bottom, and Ivalice did quake, and rocks were split asunder, and the nations unravelled.
¹²And from the height of the gallows, Ajora cried with a loud voice, “My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?”
¹³And those who stood near mocked Him, saying, “If Thou art the Son of the Most High, save Thyself.”
¹⁴But the Lord uttered no further rebuke, and yielded up His spirit into the hands of the Eternal.
¹⁵And one of the soldiers tightened the noose and removed His footing, and Lord Ajora died the death.
¹⁶And a certain man named Damas, a disciple not of the many but of the secret, took the body down from the gallows and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth.
¹⁷He laid the Lord in a new tomb, hewn from the living rock, and rolled a great stone to the door thereof.
¹⁸And those who had followed from Betalon watched from afar, their hearts broken and their eyes filled with tears.
