CHAPTER 6
¹And it came to pass, as the journey of Ajora and His disciples continued through the wilderness and the barren lands, that the multitudes who followed Him began to grow weary and faint, for the road was long and their provisions were few.
²The sun beat down upon them fiercely, and their feet were sore, and their spirits began to wane; yet they trusted in the Lord and the power of His word.
³But when the day was far spent, and the shadows lengthened upon Ivalice, the hunger of the multitude became grievous, and their hearts cried out for sustenance.
⁴And it was then that Ultima, one of the twelve disciples, drew near to Ajora and said unto Him, “Master, the people hunger, and we have no bread to give them; how shall we satisfy their need?”
⁵Ajora looked upon the face of Ultima, and upon the faces of the multitude, and His heart was moved with compassion, for He saw their travail and their trust in the Lord.
⁶And He commanded the men to gather the empty baskets they had brought with them from their homes, and to lay them before Him in a place open and clear.
⁷The men obeyed, and brought forth their baskets, empty and worn, and placed them before Ajora.
⁸And Ajora took from among them a single loaf of bread, small and plain, and blessed it with His hands, saying, “Blessed be the Lord God of Heaven and Ivalice, who provideth all things for His children.”
⁹And with the loaf in His hand, Ajora went forth into the forest that bordered the road, and He walked among the trees, and prayed to the Father in Heaven.
¹⁰And after a space of time, even an hour, Ajora returned from the forest, and in His hand He carried one of the empty baskets.
¹¹And when the men looked within the basket, they beheld that it was filled with meats of all kinds, with cheeses of rich and varied flavor, with loaves of bread, fruits, and flasks of wine.
¹²And the multitude marveled, and their hearts were filled with joy, and they cried out in wonder and thanksgiving, saying, “Surely the Son of God is among us, for no man can perform such a miracle.”
¹³Ajora then bade the men to fetch the other baskets from the forest, and as they returned, each basket was likewise filled with food and drink in abundance.
¹⁴And Ajora distributed the bread and the meats, and the cheeses, and the wine, to every man, woman, and child among the multitudes.
¹⁵None was left hungry, for the food sufficed to satisfy all, even as the baskets were emptied again and again.
¹⁶And the people ate and were filled, and their spirits were renewed, and they praised the Lord their God, who had sent His Son to care for their needs.
¹⁷And Ajora said unto them, “Take heed, O ye who hunger and thirst, for the Kingdom of Paradise is not only of bread and flesh, but of the spirit and the soul.”
¹⁸“As I have fed thy bodies this day, so shall I feed thy souls with the bread of life, which cometh down from Heaven.”
¹⁹“He that eateth of this bread shall live forever, and shall not perish, but shall inherit the Kingdom of God.”
²⁰And the disciples marveled at these words, and they wondered at the power of their Master to provide for all.
²¹And Ajora spake further, saying, “Ye are the salt of Ivalice, and the light of the world; let thy works shine before men, that they may see thy good works and glorify thy Father in Heaven.”
²²“Freely have ye received, freely give; for in giving, ye shall receive manifold, and thy joy shall be full.”
²³And the multitudes rejoiced, for they had witnessed a great miracle, and they believed in the power of God manifest in His Son.
²⁴Yet some among the Pharist priests and scribes murmured and doubted, saying, “This man claims to be the Son of God, yet how can He feed thousands with but a single loaf?”
²⁵But Ajora answered them not, for His works testified of His Father, and the truth needed no defense before the proud.
²⁶And He withdrew with His disciples to a quiet place, where He taught them further of the mysteries of the Kingdom.
²⁷And He said unto them, “Beware the leaven of the Pharists, which is hypocrisy; for they honor the Lord with their lips, but their hearts are far from Him.”
²⁸“Let thy hearts be pure, and thy hands be clean; serve one another in love, and keep the commandments of the Lord.”
²⁹“For the Kingdom of Paradise is at hand, and the time of judgment draweth nigh.”
³⁰And the disciples took these words to heart, and they resolved to spread the teaching of Ajora with all their strength.
³¹And many of the multitudes who had been fed followed Him still, and they joined His company, eager to learn the way of salvation.
³²And thus the fame of Ajora grew in all the lands, and many were drawn to the light of His teaching.
³³And the people spoke among themselves, saying, “Behold the Son of God, who feedeth the hungry, healeth the sick, and preachest the way of life.”
³⁴And the multitudes praised the Lord, who had sent His Son to redeem the world and to prepare a place of everlasting peace.
³⁵Blessed be the Lord God, who satisfieth the desire of all living, and filleth their bellies with good things.
³⁶Amen.
