CHAPTER 4
¹And it came to pass that the governors and high priests of the kingdoms, having heard of the Prophet’s growing following, were filled with envy and wrath.
²“This man turns the hearts of the people,” they said. “He speaks of a power not our own, and a Kingdom not of our rule. If we permit him to go on, none shall listen to us, and our names shall vanish from memory.”
³So they sent spies among the crowds to listen, and scribes to record his words, hoping to find fault in his speech.
⁴But Jorah preached only the coming of the Son and the miracles that would follow. He called no man false, nor stirred the people to rebellion.
⁵Still, his words bore the weight of divine fire, and many turned from hollow rites and lifeless prayers to seek the Living God.
⁶In secret chambers, the rulers conspired. “If we cannot refute him, we must silence him. Better one man perish than the nation be stirred.”
⁷And so they seized him by night in the southern city of Nareth, while he slept beneath an olive tree.
⁸A company of guards fell upon him with ropes and staffs. He did not flee, nor resist, but rose calmly and said, “The time has come. The Word is sown. Let the will of the Lord be done.”
⁹They dragged him through the streets as the sun rose, and the people, hearing of it, gathered in great number.
¹⁰Many wept and cried out, “What harm has this man done? He speaks only of healing and of mercy!” But the guards struck them away with spears.
¹¹They brought him before a tribunal of elders and priests, who accused him, saying, “Thou disturb the peace, and speak of a false king.”
¹²Jorah answered, “I speak not of a king of men, but of the Son of God, who comes with healing in His hands and truth on His tongue.”
¹³“I am no prince, nor am I worthy to unfasten His sandals. But I was called to prepare His way, and that I have done.”
¹⁴The judges conferred among themselves, and fearing the people, they chose not to stone him publicly, but to kill him in secret.
¹⁵That night, under the cover of darkness, they brought him to the high hill outside the city, where gallows had been set.
¹⁶They offered him a final chance: “Recant thy words and live. Deny this coming Son, and thou shalt go free.”
¹⁷But Jorah replied, “Even were thou to tear my tongue from my mouth, the truth would not be undone. The Son comes. His miracles shall make the blind see and the dead rise. Nothing shall turn His course.”
¹⁸So they bound his hands and feet and placed the noose around his neck.
¹⁹And Jorah looked up to the Heavens and said, “O Lord, I have done as Thou commanded. I place my spirit into Thy hands.”
²⁰Then they pulled the cord, and Jorah, the Prophet of God, was hanged upon the hill.
²¹A great silence fell upon the crowd, and a cold wind passed over the plain.
²²The people departed with heavy hearts, and many kept his words in secret, fearing the rulers but holding fast to the promise.
²³And though his body was cast into an unmarked grave, the name of Jorah spread among the faithful, and his words were repeated as holy song.
²⁴For the Lord had spoken through him, and his martyrdom sealed the testimony of truth with blood.
²⁵And it was remembered in all three kingdoms that a Prophet had once walked among them, declaring the coming of the Son, who would do mighty wonders.
²⁶And the faithful waited, watching the horizon, hearts aflame with hope.
