CHAPTER 3
¹And it came to pass in those days, when Ivalice was yet young and the hearts of men were not lifted up in pride, that the Lord God did dwell among His people, and He was as a shepherd among his flock.
²In the midst of the land did He build His seat, a place of brightness and beauty, not wrought by human hands, nor shaped from stone or wood, but born of the will of the Lord and shining as crystal in the morning light.
³This seat they called The Throne of the Highest, and around it was a garden that knew no decay, and within it flowed a spring that gave life to all who drank.
⁴And from this holy place, the Lord ruled with justice and mercy, neither elevating one tribe over another, nor favoring the strong above the meek.
⁵For He was a King unlike the kings of later days, who delight in war and tribute. The Lord delighted in righteousness, and in the humility of those who walked rightly.
⁶And the people came to Him in peace, bringing the first fruits of their fields and the choicest lambs from their flocks — not as payment, but as an offering of love, for they sought not to buy His favor, but to dwell in His joy.
⁷And the Lord received them, not as a master receives a servant, but as a father receives his children, and He walked with them through the valleys and taught them by the rivers.
⁸In those days, the Lord taught many things to the people: how to divide the year by the movement of the sun and stars; how to watch the beasts and learn from them; how to gather honey without angering the bees; and how to bless the ground before sowing seed.
⁹He did not speak with thunder or in riddles, but in plain speech, as a friend speaks to a friend, and those who heard Him were made wise.
¹⁰And the children would run to Him when He passed through the village, for they feared Him not, but loved Him as one who knew their names and laughed at their games.
¹¹In that age, no man raised sword against his neighbor, nor did the strong oppress the weak, for the fear of the Lord was upon them — not the fear of wrath, but the fear that flows from reverence and awe.
¹²The Lord would sit at the evening fire and listen to the counsel of the elders, and He would bless their words when they were just, and correct them gently when they erred.
¹³And when the people quarreled, they brought their disputes before the Lord, and He judged not with favoritism, but with truth; and none departed from His presence unreconciled.
¹⁴Thus did peace abide in the land, and the people grew in number and in understanding, and they called themselves The Blessed Ones, for the Lord was in their midst, and His light guided them day and night.
¹⁵And in the seventh month of each year, the people from all corners of the land came together and gathered at the Throne of the Highest.
¹⁶And they brought with them songs and stories, bread and wine, the fruits of Ivalice and the works of their hands, and they made a great feast to the Lord, and rejoiced before Him.
¹⁷And He rejoiced with them, for the joy of the people was His delight, and their thanksgiving rose to Heaven like incense.
¹⁸In those days, none walked in darkness, and the memory of sorrow was but a shadow in the distance, for the Lord was their lamp, and His presence was their peace.
¹⁹So passed the early days of Ivalice, in which the Lord God dwelt with men, and His throne was among them, and the people were as children in the house of their Father.
