CHAPTER 1
¹Grace be unto thee, O King Yaravan if Limberry, and peace from the Most High, who sitteth above the firmament, and from His holy servant, Ajora, the Light made flesh.
²I, Velius, a servant of the Lord and an apostle of Saint Ajora, do write unto thee with trembling hand and fervent heart, as one who hath seen the end and remembereth the beginning.
³Blessed be the Lord Most High, who commandeth the morning and causeth the dawn to break; who setteth the boundaries of the deep and stilleth the wrath of nations.
⁴Who calleth forth the stars by name, and they answer Him with song; who bindeth the snow in its treasury, and openeth the womb of Ivalice in due season.
⁵He is the everlasting God, the one foundation which cannot be moved; His voice shattereth cedars, and yet comforteth the widow.
⁶He hath made all things by wisdom, and upholdeth them by His will; naught escapeth His gaze, nor can any flee from His presence.
⁷And holy is Ajora, the Anointed One, who was sent in flesh, that man might behold the glory of the Father.
⁸He walked among us, not as a king among princes, but as a lamb among wolves; and they that knew Him not mocked His gentleness.
⁹Yet by His wounds we are healed, and by His word we are made wise; for He opened the eyes of the blind, and caused the deaf to hear gladness.
¹⁰He calleth sinners to repentance, and leadeth the broken-hearted in paths of mercy; He is the gate, the vine, the morning star.
¹¹And now, O King Yaravan, unto thee I write with affection and awe, for thou art set upon a high seat, and the Lord hath made thee guardian over many souls.
¹²Thy throne is established by the sword, yet thy name is remembered by thy justice; thou hast not withheld mercy from the afflicted, nor turned thy face from the humble.
¹³The Lord, who raiseth up kings and casteth them down, hath favored thy hand in battle, and given thee a sceptre over the land of Limberry.
¹⁴The people bless thy name when they gather in the gates, for thou hast judged wisely and ruled with discretion.
¹⁵Thou hast not forgotten the poor, nor cast aside the widows; thou hast made peace where there was strife, and brought healing to the ruins of war.
¹⁶Blessed art thou if thou continuest in this way, and makest the fear of the Lord thy delight.
¹⁷For he that ruleth in righteousness is as the light of the morning when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds.
¹⁸Let thy heart cleave unto the commandments of the Lord, and meditate day and night upon the teachings of His holy servant.
¹⁹Let thy judgments be tempered with grace, and thy decrees with patience; be slow to wrath and swift to hear.
²⁰For the king that walketh in humility shall be exalted, and he that boasteth in his strength shall be brought low.
²¹Consider thine office not as a crown only, but as a trust; not as a treasure, but as a charge.
²²Be thou as a shepherd to thy people, watching by night, and leading by day; feeding the flock with knowledge and truth.
²³Be strong, yet gentle; bold, yet reverent; a terror to evil, and a refuge to the just.
²⁴For the eye of the Lord is upon thee, and He shall weigh all thy works in the balance.
²⁵The Lord bless thee, O King, and cause thy days to be many; may thy seed be established, and thy memory endure unto the ages.
