CHAPTER 5
¹And when Bezaliel was cast down, the mouths of the proud were shut, and the haughty lowered their gaze to the dust.
²The kingdoms of Avar, Delmar, and Kezreth mourned for what pride had wrought, and the people turned their hearts again to the Lord.
³They spoke often of Amphisbaena, once Bezaliel, and how he had raised his head against Heaven and been made low. They spoke his name with shuddering breath, that their children might fear and remember.
⁴Deep in the frozen chasm, beneath even the bones of Ivalice, Amphisbaena found neither death nor solace.
⁵The darkness was thick and the silence great, but the cold was greater still, like a breath held by the universe itself.
⁶There he made a throne of hoarfrost and black stone, and his crown was a ring of ice, jagged as guilt.
⁷And the spirits of the wicked, those who had scorned the Lord and trampled His commands in life, were gathered there after death — drawn downward by the weight of their cruelty, like iron to the deep.
⁸Amphisbaena ruled over them with teeth and chains, a king without warmth, whose mercy was numb and whose justice was the echo of his own despair.
⁹The damned cried for fire and found only frost. They sought the heat of regret, but even sorrow froze in their chests.
¹⁰And so Hell was made not of flame but of endless cold, where the sun had no voice and time cracked like brittle glass.
¹¹Meanwhile, the Lord remained with His people, walking again through the cities and the hills, teaching the young and comforting the aged.
¹²He gathered the children into His arms and told them of beginnings. He sat with shepherds beneath the stars and heard their songs.
¹³His presence was a balm to the weary and a light to the lost. And though He bore grief over the fall of Bezaliel, He did not turn away from the living.
¹⁴The people brought forth their offerings — the first grains of harvest, the finest wool, the choicest fruits — and laid them in joy before Him.
¹⁵They built sanctuaries of cedar and stone, and in their prayers they said, “May we walk not in the way of Amphisbaena, but in the footsteps of the Lord, whose hand formed the world and whose voice steadies our hearts.”
¹⁶And God saw their worship, and their repentance, and the goodness that yet bloomed among them like green shoots in winter.
¹⁷He said, “The pride of one cannot undo the faith of many. As long as My people seek Me, I shall not hide My face.”
¹⁸And the Lord tended His flock as a shepherd tends the lambs, with patience and mercy, guarding them from harm and leading them by the still waters.
¹⁹And there was peace upon Ivalice, for a time.
