CHAPTER 1
¹Velius, a servant of the Lord Most High, and a bondman of His Anointed, Saint Ajora, unto Galgariff, King of Fovoham, grace and peace be multiplied unto thee.
²I write unto thee from the solitude of my final days, when the light of my body groweth dim, yet the flame of my spirit burneth still in the name of the Lord.
³Blessed be the Father Everlasting, who doth stretch out the Heavens as a curtain, and setteth the foundations of the deep in wisdom and might.
⁴Great is He who speaketh, and lo, the mountains melt; who whispereth, and the stars flee from their place.
⁵All creation singeth unto Him a song that endeth not, from the beetle that creepeth in the dust to the seraph that danceth in the highest fire.
⁶Glory unto Him who was before all, and shall be when all pass away; whose name is beyond naming, and whose thought no mind may compass.
⁷He bringeth forth His will through Saint Ajora, His Son, whose feet trod Ivalice, and whose hands bore the print of sacrifice.
⁸Through Him was the Word made flesh, not in pride, but in lowliness; not in wrath, but in mercy; not with sword, but with truth.
⁹And He dwelt among us, and taught the meek, and rebuked the mighty, and bore upon His back the weight of our transgression.
¹⁰When they did cast Him down, thinking to silence the flame, behold, it kindled the world instead.
¹¹Now is His name exalted above all names, and His blood speaketh louder than the blood of the slain.
¹²Let every throne that endureth be established in His righteousness, and let every scepter be wielded in His remembrance.
¹³Therefore I write unto thee, O King Galgariff, ruler of Fovoham, which once was Delmar, and hath risen anew from the ashes of wrath.
¹⁴Thou hast ruled with a steady hand, not given unto hastiness, nor tossed as a reed upon the river.
¹⁵Thy counsels have preserved the peace, and thy decrees have bound up the wounds of thine inheritance.
¹⁶The people of the valleys sing thy name, and the merchants of the coast declare thy fairness.
¹⁷Where once were swords, now are ploughshares; where once was fire, now is the building up of cities.
¹⁸Though the winds of war did scatter the threefold realm, thou hast gathered thy portion and made it whole.
¹⁹And I say unto thee: Blessed art thou, O King, if thou continuest in the fear of the Lord and the remembrance of Saint Ajora.
²⁰Let thy heart be as the heart of a shepherd, not lording over the flock, but watching, guiding, and defending.
²¹Let thy ears be open to the cry of the widow, and thy hands swift to lift the orphan.
²²For he that ruleth justly is a mirror of the Lord, and he that serveth truth is a servant of the Flame.
²³May the Most High establish thy throne in justice, and send thee dreams in the night to instruct thy soul.
²⁴May the Son speak peace unto thee from His throne, and number thy days among the days of the wise.
²⁵Peace be upon thy house, and upon thy counsellors, and upon all the people that do righteousness in thy kingdom.
