CANTICLE 7
¹God, please help us sinful children of Ivalice, for we have walked in crooked paths and turned away from Thy commandments.
²We have given our hands to idols, and have spoken vain words with our lips, yet our hearts were far from Thee.
³Our fathers did walk in Thy light, and our mothers did keep Thy precepts; but we, their children, have become forgetful.
⁴The vineyards lie unkept, and the altars are broken; the lamps are dimmed, and the songs of praise are few.
⁵We have trusted in princes and leaned upon the walls of men, but they have crumbled beneath us.
⁶The Lord our God is righteous, and His ways are perfect; yet we have despised correction and hardened our hearts.
⁷The time draweth near, and the trumpet is already raised; the gate of mercy shall not always stand open.
⁸Who shall dwell in the mountain of the Lord, or who shall abide in His holy place, save he that hath clean hands and a pure heart?
⁹Wash us, O Lord, in the waters of repentance, and make us white as the snows of the northern peaks.
¹⁰For we are stained with the blood of envy, and with the dust of pride have we cloaked ourselves.
¹¹Let Thy Spirit move among us as a wind through the fields, and stir us from slumber to righteousness.
¹²Make straight the highway for our God, and cast down every hill of arrogance and deceit.
¹³The time of peace shall surely come, but not for the wicked who cling to rebellion.
¹⁴They shall be cast out into the waste places, and none shall answer when they cry aloud.
¹⁵But the humble shall inherit joy, and the lowly shall enter into the gates of the Lord.
¹⁶The law of God is a lamp to the feet, and a light to the path of the faithful.
¹⁷Turn us again, O Lord of Hosts; cause Thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.
¹⁸The fields shall bloom again, and the rivers shall sing, if we return and keep Thy statutes.
¹⁹But if we tarry, the day of dread shall come, and there shall be no place to flee.
²⁰O merciful God, whose patience is long and whose mercy endureth forever, hear the prayers of Thy servants who seek Thy face.
²¹We have sinned against Thee and against one another, and our iniquities rise as smoke before Thy throne.
²²Yet Thy word is faithful, and Thy covenant standeth sure; Thou hast promised redemption to all who repent.
²³Let the hearts of the children be turned back to Thee, and let them not harden their necks as their fathers did.
²⁴Thy statutes are a heritage of truth, and Thy commandments are written upon the tablets of our souls.
²⁵Remove from us the spirit of sloth and the spirit of rebellion, and clothe us in the garments of righteousness.
²⁶For Thou art a God who delighteth in mercy, and Thy lovingkindness is without end.
²⁷Raise up among us prophets and teachers, that they may open the eyes of the blind and heal the brokenhearted.
²⁸That the way may be prepared for Thy Kingdom, and the people made ready for the coming of Thy glory.
²⁹We confess our failings, and lift up our voices in supplication; O Lord, be not far from us.
³⁰In the day of trouble, Thou art our refuge and strength; hide us beneath the shadow of Thy wings.
³¹Teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
³²Let the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable in Thy sight.
³³For Thou art our rock and our deliverer, and in Thee alone do we find salvation.
³⁴Cast out the darkness of sin, and kindle within us the flame of Thy truth.
³⁵We wait for Thy salvation as the earth thirsteth for the rain, and our souls pant after Thee.
³⁶Turn not away Thy face from us, lest we be consumed; but lift up Thy countenance and give us peace.
³⁷May Thy law be our guide, and Thy justice our shield, that we walk upright before Thee all our days.
³⁸So shall our generations praise Thee, and declare Thy wondrous works unto the ends of Ivalice.
³⁹O Lord of hosts, who reigneth forever, let Thy judgments be manifest upon Ivalice, that the proud may be humbled.
⁴⁰Make straight the path before Thy servants, and remove all stumbling blocks from their way.
⁴¹Teach us to love Thy law with all our hearts, and to keep Thy statutes without wavering.
⁴²Let no deceitful word proceed from our lips, but only that which edifieth and giveth grace unto the hearers.
⁴³Deliver us from the snares of the adversary, and from the roaring lion that seeketh to devour.
⁴⁴Strengthen our hands to do Thy work, and our feet to run in the way of Thy commandments.
⁴⁵Let the spirit of wisdom and understanding rest upon us, and the fear of the Lord be our continual guide.
⁴⁶Cleanse us from all unrighteousness, and create in us a clean heart, O God.
⁴⁷Cast away from us the spirit of sloth, of pride, and of contention, that we may walk humbly with Thee.
⁴⁸O God of salvation, incline Thine ear and hear the cries of Thy people, and answer us speedily.
⁴⁹Set our feet upon the rock, and establish our goings, that we may not be moved.
⁵⁰May our mouths declare Thy praise continually, and our lives show forth Thy goodness.
⁵¹Let peace dwell within our borders, and righteousness be established in our gates.
⁵²Guide us in the paths of truth and holiness, that we may be found blameless in Thy sight.
⁵³Deliver us from the power of sin, and grant us victory over the flesh.
⁵⁴Strengthen our faith, that we may trust in Thee at all times, and rejoice in Thy salvation.
⁵⁵May the light of Thy countenance shine upon us, and make our faces to be glad.
⁵⁶Blessed be the Lord, who hath not forsaken His people, but hath heard their supplications.
⁵⁷Hallelujah, praise ye the Lord, whose mercy endureth forever, and whose truth is established to all generations.
⁵⁸O God, who alone art mighty and holy, exalt Thy name above all Ivalice, and let all nations tremble before Thee.
⁵⁹Gather Thy people as a flock, and shepherd them with Thy rod of righteousness and mercy.
⁶⁰Let not the children of iniquity triumph over Thy servants, but make their counsel to be confounded.
⁶¹Teach us to love our brethren, and to forgive even as Thou hast forgiven us.
⁶²Establish Thy covenant of peace in our hearts, that we may walk in the way of salvation all our days.
⁶³Put away from us the spirit of rebellion and stubbornness, and grant us a willing spirit to obey Thy word.
⁶⁴Let Thy laws be written upon our hearts, that we may not forget Thy commandments.
⁶⁵Preserve us from the deceit of the wicked, and from the allurements of this vain world.
⁶⁶Renew in us the joy of Thy salvation, and uphold us with Thy free spirit.
⁶⁷Grant us patience in tribulation, and courage to endure all manner of trials.
⁶⁸Let Thy holy angels watch over us, and deliver us from the power of darkness.
⁶⁹Help us to walk in the light of Thy countenance, and to delight in Thy statutes.
⁷⁰Guide our steps in the way everlasting, and suffer us not to fall into temptation.
⁷¹May the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keep our hearts and minds in the Lord.
⁷²O Lord, strengthen Thy people, and build up Thy holy city, that Thy name may be glorified.
⁷³Let us not forget the mercies of the past, but praise Thee with thankful hearts forevermore.
⁷⁴O God, who reignest from eternity to eternity, hear the prayer of Thy humble servants, and be gracious unto us.
⁷⁵Come quickly, Lord, and deliver us; make haste to help us, for the days are evil.
⁷⁶Until that day, keep us faithful and steadfast, that we may stand before Thee without shame.
⁷⁷Blessed be the Lord God of Hosts, who reigneth on high; hallelujah, amen and amen.
