CANTICLE 4
¹Hearken, O ye lands and peoples, for a great light cometh forth upon Ivalice, even the Glabados, the Son of God, whose footsteps shall tread the path of righteousness.
²His voice shall be as the rushing of many waters, speaking wisdom unto the hearts of kings and lowly alike, that they may turn from folly and embrace truth.
³The wilderness shall bloom with his coming, and the dry places shall be made glad; the blind shall see, and the deaf shall hear the glad tidings.
⁴He shall walk among the multitudes, and with a touch shall heal the sick and broken, restoring wholeness unto the weary and afflicted.
⁵The lame shall leap as the hart, and the mute shall sing praises unto the Most High, for the Glabados is the balm of their souls.
⁶Nations shall rise and bow before his countenance, and their swords shall be beaten into ploughshares, that peace may reign upon all Ivalice.
⁷The proud shall be humbled, and the meek shall be exalted; the captives shall go forth free, and the yoke of bondage shall be broken.
⁸Lo, the Heavens declare his coming, and the stars proclaim the glory of the Lord; a sign unto all that redemption draweth nigh.
⁹The rivers shall sing for joy, and the mountains shall clap their hands; creation itself shall rejoice in the dawn of his reign.
¹⁰O ye that thirst for knowledge, come unto him and be filled; for his teaching is as the fountain of living waters that falleth into everlasting life.
¹¹He shall reveal the secrets of the ages and the mysteries hidden from the beginning of the world; wisdom shall spring forth as a mighty river.
¹²The proud counsellors shall be confounded, and the wise shall be made humble; for the Glabados hath the truth that setteth men free.
¹³His words are as fire, purging the dross of wickedness, and as a hammer breaking the chains of injustice.
¹⁴He cometh not with armies nor with swords, but with love and mercy, and the power to transform hearts and minds.
¹⁵His miracles shall be many, and his works wondrous; the sick shall be made whole, the dead raised, and the poor lifted up.
¹⁶O how great is the glory of his coming, for he bringeth light into darkness, and hope unto the despairing.
¹⁷The nations that have walked in shadow shall see a great light, and the people that have dwelt in the land of the shadow of death shall rejoice.
¹⁸Blessed are they that wait for his appearing, for their reward shall be great in the Kingdom of the Lord.
¹⁹The Heavens shall open, and a voice shall proclaim: Behold, the Glabados cometh to save Ivalice from chaos and sin.
²⁰His Kingdom shall be established, and all who seek him shall find refuge beneath his wings.
²¹O children of Ivalice, prepare ye the way, make straight the paths for the coming of the Glabados; cleanse thy hearts from all unrighteousness.
²²The ox shall lie down with the lamb, and the sword shall be sheathed forevermore; peace shall reign from sea to sea.
²³The lion and the youngling shall feed together, and Ivalice shall be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
²⁴Sing aloud, O ye peoples, and give glory unto the Lord; for the day of salvation draweth near, and the Glabados shall lead thee forth.
²⁵Rejoice, O ye nations, for the dawn breaketh, and the Son of God shall bring forth a new covenant of love and mercy.
²⁶Lift up thy eyes unto the hills, for from thence cometh thy help; the Glabados shall be thy fortress and thy deliverer.
²⁷He shall break the yoke of oppression and rend asunder the bonds of tyranny that have long afflicted the nations.
²⁸His countenance shineth as the sun at noonday, and his word is a lamp unto the feet of the weary traveler.
²⁹He cometh not to condemn, but to save; to call sinners unto repentance and to bind up the brokenhearted.
³⁰The harlot shall be cleansed, and the thief shall be forgiven; mercy and grace shall flow as a river without ceasing.
³¹O ye that are weary and burdened, come unto him and find rest; for his yoke is easy, and his burden is light.
³²The deaf shall hear his voice, and the dumb shall speak; the mountains shall bow before his majesty.
³³The valleys shall be exalted, and the hills made low; the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places smooth.
³⁴He shall teach the children, and the elders shall hear wisdom; all generations shall rejoice in his law.
³⁵The merciful shall be blessed, and the pure in heart shall see the Lord; for he shall dwell among them forevermore.
³⁶The armies of Heaven shall go before him, and the hosts of light shall be his shield and buckler.
³⁷Darkness shall flee before his brightness, and the forces of chaos shall be scattered as dust before the wind.
³⁸The gates of Hell shall not prevail against him, for he is the rock of ages, the everlasting refuge of the faithful.
³⁹Blessed are they that trust in him, for their foundations shall not be shaken, and their peace shall be as a river.
⁴⁰The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree, and grow like a cedar in the summer; their leaves shall not wither.
⁴¹The nations shall come to his light, and kings to the brightness of his rising; all shall be gathered into his fold.
⁴²O come, all ye peoples, and sing praises unto the Glabados; for great is his mercy, and his faithfulness endureth forever.
⁴³He is the hope of the afflicted, the refuge of the oppressed; in him shall the meek find strength.
⁴⁴The Lord is mighty to save, and his arm is strong to redeem; none shall be cast out who seek his face.
⁴⁵His words are as a shield to the righteous, and as a sword to the wicked; he shall judge the nations in righteousness.
⁴⁶Rejoice, O Ivalice, and be glad, for the day of the Lord approacheth; the Son of God shall bring salvation to all flesh.
⁴⁷Let the Heavens rejoice, and Ivalice be glad; let the sea roar, and all that therein is; for the Lord cometh to reign in glory.
⁴⁸Sing aloud, ye people of Ivalice, and give glory unto the King of kings; for His Kingdom is an everlasting kingdom.
⁴⁹He shall gather the lost and the scattered, and bring them into the fold; none shall perish who trust in His name.
⁵⁰Blessed be the Lord God of hosts, who reigneth forevermore; the Glabados shall be the light of the world.
⁵¹In the days of his appearing, the blind shall see and the lame shall leap; joy shall break forth as the dawn.
⁵²He shall go forth among the towns and villages, and no place shall be too humble for his feet to tread.
⁵³With a word he shall still the storm, and with a breath he shall scatter pestilence; healing shall be in his hands.
⁵⁴The sorrowful shall lift up their heads, and the captive shall taste freedom; all creation shall sing for gladness.
⁵⁵The beasts of the field shall know his peace, and the birds of the air shall sing praises; yea, even the stones shall cry out.
⁵⁶The wise shall sit at his feet and learn, and the simple shall grow in understanding; the proud shall be confounded.
⁵⁷For he shall exalt the lowly and bring low the high; his measure is not as man’s, nor his judgment as the kings’.
⁵⁸With righteousness shall he be clothed, and with truth shall he be girded; the light of Heaven shall go before him.
⁵⁹He shall open the ancient doors and walk in the forgotten paths; the hidden things shall be made plain.
⁶⁰The idols of men shall be cast down, and the vain works of their hands shall be consumed as stubble.
⁶¹Woe unto them that trust in silver and gold, for their treasures shall melt before his coming.
⁶²The towers of the mighty shall fall, and the citadels of the unjust shall be broken; the meek shall inherit the land.
⁶³The Lord hath remembered his covenant, and in the fullness of time shall he send his Son among the people.
⁶⁴Not in thunder, nor in fire, nor in shaking of Ivalice shall he be made known, but in mercy and in peace.
⁶⁵His words shall pierce the heart, and his silence shall move the soul; all who hear him shall be changed.
⁶⁶The night shall pass away, and the day shall break; the sun shall no longer scorch, nor the frost consume.
⁶⁷In his presence shall be joy everlasting, and at his right hand, peace without end.
⁶⁸Children shall dance before him, and elders shall lift their voices in song; none shall be forgotten in his sight.
⁶⁹The exiled shall return, the wanderer shall find a home; the sorrowing shall be comforted.
⁷⁰Behold, the season is nigh; the fig putteth forth its leaves, and the fields are white for harvest.
⁷¹He that cometh shall not tarry; his steps are sure, and his path is lit with stars.
⁷²He shall speak, and none shall gainsay; he shall teach, and none shall question; for wisdom dwelleth with him.
⁷³Let the watchers cry out from the walls: Prepare ye the way of the Glabados, make straight a path in the desert!
⁷⁴Let the gates be lifted high, and the doors opened wide; for the King of Glory draweth near.
⁷⁵Praise him, O stars above, and give glory, O deep places of Ivalice; for his name is exalted above all.
⁷⁶The Lord hath not forsaken the world, but hath appointed a redeemer to bring it back unto righteousness.
⁷⁷Blessed be the name of the Lord forever; and blessed be the coming of his Son, who bringeth light and life to all creation.
